A free gift for you this Advent

Friends, I just received this email from Dan Burke, and I wanted to share it with you, especially if you struggle with sadness or anxiety during the Advent/Christmas season:

Dear Kitty,

I’m not here to ask for anything today. I just want to offer you a gift.

And there’s nothing more I’d like to give you this Advent than the opportunity to wait for the Lord with serenity, peace, presence of mind…all the things you think are impossible right now.

You’re not alone in feeling stress, sadness, or anxiety with all that this season—as glorious and hopeful as it is—can stir up.

Add guilt for feeling that way, and you’ve got a host of crushing emotions stealing your joy and your ability to pray and watch.

But that’s not what the Lord wants for you. And there is a way to approach this time of year differently.

Spiritualdirection.com's newest eBook, Welcoming Christ: Overcoming Advent Anxiety and Sadness will help you have the best Advent—and Christmas—ever.

We invite you to request it here for free. It’s our gift to you, with prayers that it will bless you and increase your sense of recollection and calm this Advent.

May God continue to bless you and all your preparations—spiritual and physical—for his coming.

Yours in the Coming Messiah,

Dan Burke

Thought you might enjoy a little clip I took of the Saenger Pit Orchestra playing the postlude to Phantom of the Opera. The production value was over the top! As always, so proud of my husband and the amazing orchestras he assembles for these traveling Broadway shows.

7 Lessons from Whitewater Rafting

7 Life Lessons from Whitewater Rafting
(or How to Remain at Peace When You’re Afraid)

by Kitty Cleveland

Years ago I joined some friends in a thrilling whitewater rafting excursion down the frigid Snake River in Jackson Hole, WY. I had rafted down the Nantahala River in North Carolina many times in the past (once getting trapped under the raft), and I’d even rafted this river before in a large raft. But this time was different.

This time I ended up being assigned the front of a little two-person duckie with a wisp of a woman steering in back. Seriously, I easily had about six inches and 60 pounds on her. I hollered out to our fearless leader on the big, safe raft next to us, "Shouldn't I be in the back of this thing?" She assured me that my strength would be needed to power through the danger up ahead. That's when I started praying. Lesson 1: ALWAYS ACKNOWLEDGE GOD FIRST.
